Editing in Drama Films

There are many points to consider when editing a drama film. For example, the points that need to be considered and looked at whilst editing are; Narrative, characters, genre, relationships, effectiveness, shot choices and continuity. All of these elements need to be considered when editing  a film in order to make the plot and narrative clear for the audience watching.

There are five different types of relationships between shots that are frequently used within a drama genre;
-Spatial Relations
-Graphic Relations
-Temporal  Relations
-Rhythmic Relations
-Thematic Relations

SPATIAL RELATIONS-

Spatial relations is considered the most important relationship between shots due to it being the relation that perceives the sense of physical space that is reliable in the specific scene of the film. In order to successfully achieve continuity in the narrative.

GRAPHIC RELATIONS-

Depending on the desired effect the graphic relations of the the two shots that transition can either be graphically similar or graphically dissimilar. The primary focus of the editing is to keep clear continuity.
