Panic Attack Case Study

The question that is asked about short films a lot is whether they can be successful or not. The answer to this question is yes. Short films can be successful in variety of ways, not only to do with money. These other ways include, the number of views it has on a certain media platform, for example Youtube. Also the idea that as long as the message was portrayed successfully to the audience, the film as a whole is successful, as many short films are of the alternative group of films. Lastly, the short film can be successful in the means of what impact on the audience it has as a short film, being 5-20 minutes long.

'Panic Attack', created by Fede Alvarez, is a very good example of how short films can be successful. The whole budget of the film is $300, due to the genre of apocalyptic science fiction, needing a lot of explosions to the narrative to add effect of tension. It is set in Uruguay which is automatically intriguing to the audience an alternative location to be used.

The short film 'Panic Attack' was released at the Buenos Aires Rojo Sangre, on the 31st October 2009. It was then distributed onto the massive media platform, Youtube, on the 3rd November 2009. This then led the film to receive as huge amount of viewings, at 7 million. The 7 Million views it received also stemmed from an example of the twp step flow, as Kanye West saw the short film and tweeted about it, giving it huge recognition.

This then led to Alvarez to be offered $30 million from Hollywood to create his own full-length film which is called 'Evil Dead'. Alvarez also went onto making other feature length films such as 'Don't Breathe'.
