Evaluation Question two

My film promotion as a whole consists of three main factors, the short film, the poster and the film review. All three of these elements work together in order to make the promotion side of the project succeed in all ways possible. Each of these elements work in different ways, which help with the promotion of the short film that my group created. Our short film is about a young girl named Lucy Merill who is bullied online by anonymous people, which unfortunately ends up in her taking her own life.
Review
The review was created in order to gain a wider range of a target audience for our short film. The whole point of the review was to give off a little bit of the narrative to the reader to give a little bit away to make them want to read more, and to actually, watch the film. As well as this the review helps the audience gain a bigger connection with the character in my short film, as it shows an insight of the characters feelings and emotions from a review point of view.
The magazine set out that chose to use was Sight and Sound magazine. There were many reasons for this choice. One reason was that the layout was nice and simple therefore the reader will be about to understand the review clearly. As well as this the target audience of the magazine itself is mid-teens to young adults therefore this magazine widens our range of target audience greatly.

Poster
The main focus of the film poster was to catch peoples eye when they see the poster, making the audience want to watch the film that it is for. My poster is very to the point as it focuses on my main character, Lucy Merill.  As well as this, my poster follows the conventions of a poster for a short film. The background of my poster is the setting of which my short film takes place in which makes it personal to the character, giving the audience an insight of what her life is like. The bright colour of the character's pyjama top is there to contrast her emotions that are seen in her face.

A difference between the poster and the film review is the fact that I used two different types of pictures that we took of our actor. In the poster I wanted to portray the emotions and sadness of the character, so the reader and audience had an insight of what the character is feeling. The film review picture is a bit more upbeat, with 'Lucy' reading a book. This gives the reader an insight of what the characters interests are which helps the audience to connect with the character, which will cause a bigger effect on them when the audience watches the short film.

The use of convergence is key when making my poster and film review. This is clearly seen through the use of a release date and where it will be released. On both of the film poster and review, there is a clear link to the media platform YouTube, which will help promote the film, as well as increase our target audience.
Overall the aim of the promotion of the short film was to help gain a larger target audience, as well as making sure that the audience actually watching the short film and reading the review and poster, understands the serious messages that are being put across.
